1822direkt: No FinTS Payments after September 16Th, 2025

1822direkt has discontinued FinTS payments on September 16, 2025. Since the Outbank app communicates with the bank via the FinTS interface, this unfortunately means that no money transfers with 1822direkt is possible through the Outbank app. Checking your current account balance and transaction history will, however, continue to work.

About the FinTS Interface

We cannot confirm the bank’s statement that FinTS no longer meets current requirements: The FinTS interface is continuously updated and already supports new technical standards such as instant payments and the upcoming mandatory Verification of Payee (VoP) that will take effect on October 9, 2025. VoP requires checking whether the entered recipient name and IBAN match before a transfer can be executed. FinTS also meets all security and performance requirements.

We assume that the bank’s decision is more likely based on economic reasons: adapting both interfaces (FinTS and XS2A) to the new EU regulations would require additional investment. In addition, the XS2A interface does not offer all features (e.g., securities accounts, fixed-term deposits) and therefore cannot fully replace FinTS.

About the XS2A Interface

To access the PSD2 interface (XS2A), third-party providers must obtain authorization from the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin). Outbank does not currently hold this BaFin license. Registration is only mandatory for providers that have direct access to customer data.

Outbank has no access to your financial data: All financial information remains encrypted on your device. The app on your device retrieves your financial data directly from your bank. This is why Outbank is exempt from regulatory approval and does not need a BaFin license.

If you also find 1822direkt’s decision confusing or frustrating, we recommend submitting your feedback directly to the bank. We are not aware of such restrictions at other banks – in fact, many are actively investing in further developing and future-proofing the FinTS interface.
