Where can I find Backups on my macOS App?

Backups are created automatically on the day you open Outbank when there is a change in the database, for example, when you have new transactions.

The backup files are stored under

~/Library/Containers/com.stoegerit.outbank.osx/Data/Documents/backups/

on your Mac.

Starting with macOS 11.0, the backups can be found under ~/Library/Containers/Outbank/Data/Documents/backups/.

You can go directly to the backup folder from Outbank:

Start Outbank > click on 'File' > 'Backups'

or go to the Settings of the App > 'Security' > 'Show Backups'

Start the restore process by double-clicking on the backup data you want to use.

Important notes:

  • When restoring a backup, you must use the same App Password you used when creating the backup file. It might be different from your current App password.
  • If you restore an older backup, your current data will be overwritten. You will have to log in again with your existing Outbank ID.
  • If you are using data synchronization between multiple devices, you need to reset the 'Secure Sync' :
  1. After restoring the backup, log in with your Outbank ID.
  2. Go to 'Settings' and tap on 'Reset Secure Sync'.
  3. Your devices will be disconnected from each other and sync data will be deleted. The local data on the device remains unaffected.
  4. Activate the 'Secure Sync' again to upload the local data to the cloud.
  5. Start Outbank on your other devices one by one and reactivate 'Secure Sync' to overwrite the local data with the sync data from the first device.
