App Password

The Outbank App stores your sensitive financial data directly on your device.

Only you have access to your finances. Thanks to the zero-knowledge principle, your data is neither stored on external servers nor shared with third parties.

What is the App Password and why do I need it?

Access to the app is protected by your personal app password. You create this password yourself during the initial setup. No one but you has access to or insight into your financial data.

You also need your app password when restoring a backup, activating ‘Secure Sync’ (on iOS and macOS), and when buying a new device and transfering your data.

Important Notes:

  • The app password must be at least 6 characters long and should be known only to you. To improve password strength, we recomment to use uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols.

  • Remember your app password well. There is no reset button and the password cannot be requested by the support or from the outside.

Login via Face ID / Touch ID or Biometric Login

For quicker and safer login, you can activate biometric recognition (face or fingerprint recognition):

  1. First, ensure the feature is enabled in your device settings.

  2. Then open the Outbank app and tap or click the corresponding icon on the login screen.

  3. Enter your app password to activate the feature.

  4. After that, you can log in using facial or fingerprint recognition when starting the app.

You can also enable or disable this feature in the Settings under 'Security' > 'Login'.

Note for the macOS version: When you select Touch ID on the login screen (after activation), a window will appear saying "Outbank wants to unlock Outbank". Simply unlock Outbank by placing your finger on the scanner. Alternatively, you must enter your Mac’s device password here — not your Outbank app password.

Login with 1Password

This feature is only available on iOS devices. To use the app with 1Password:

  1. Install the 1Password app on your iOS device and enable it in your device settings:

  2. iOS Settings > ‘General’ > ‘AutoFill & Passwords’ > Enable 'AutoFill Passwords and Passkeys' > Set 1Password as source

  3. Open the Outbank app > tap in the app password field > tap 'Passwords' above the keyboard > choose 1Password > 1Password will open

  4. Select 'New Login' and create a login for the Outbank app by setting a username and saving your password. Save the data in 1Password.

  5. At your next login, you can now use 1Password to log in to the Outbank app.

Change Existing App Password

You can change your app password at any time through the app’s settings:

‘Settings’ > ‘Security’ > ‘App Password’ > Enter current app password > Enter new app password

Forgot Your App Password?

Since the app password was set and confirmed by you personally during onboarding, it is known only by you and cannot be reset by the support. For security reasons, it’s not possible to change or bypass the password externally.

If you no longer remember your app password, unfortunately, you won’t be able to continue using the Outbank app with the current database. If you're truly unable to recall your app password, please delete your local data as follows:

  • iOS & Android versions:
Start the app, tap the small "i" in the top right corner of the login window, then tap ‘Delete Local Data’.

  • macOS version:
Start the app > Menu bar > Help > ‘Delete Local Data’

Afterwards you can set up the app as a new user and manually re-add your bank accounts.

Forgot Your App Password but Can Still Log In with Face ID or Touch ID?

If you’re using the iOS version of Outbank, and can still log in via Face ID or Touch ID, feel free to contact our technical support at help@outbankapp.com.

We can activate an additional support feature four your app, that lets you read out your current app password during a login via Face ID or Touch ID.
